One of the most essential personal investments in this day and age is a good healthcare package. For Filipinos, PhilHealth coverage is the most basic of health packages, but do we really know what we are entitled to? Here’s a quick list of what PHhilHealth can do for you.
#1: Every Filipino is mandatorily covered under the National Health Insurance Program administered by Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) as defined under the National Health Insurance Act of 2013.
#2: Workers and employees covered by PhilHealth include
- Government employees
- Private employees
- Job order contractors and project-based contractors
- Owners of micro enterprises
- Owners of small, medium and large enterprises
- Household help
- Family drivers
- Migrant workers
- Informal sector: street hawkers, market vendors, pedicab and tricycle drivers, small construction workers, home-based industries and services
- Professionals/self-earning individuals: doctors, lawyers, engineers, artists, architects, entrepreneurs, actors, actresses, performers, new correspondents, professional athletes, coaches, trainers and the like
- Filipinos with Dual Citizenship
- Naturalized Filipino Citizens
- Citizens of other countries working and/or residing in the Philippines
- Retirees/pensioners from government sector
- Retirees/pensioner from private sector
- Uniformed members of the AFP, PNP, BJMP and BFP
- PhilHealth members who have reached the age of retirement
#3: The benefit package includes
- In-patient care: room and board; services of health care professionals; diagnostic and laboratory examination services; use of surgical or medical equipment and facilities; prescription drugs; health education
- Out-patient medical and surgical care: services of health care professionals; diagnostic and laboratory examination services; personal preventive services; prescription drugs; health education
- Emergency and transfer services
- Health education
#4: Members can avail of PhilHealth benefits upon completing at least 3 months’ premium contributions within the six months prior to availment; or, paid the required premiums for the calendar year.
#5: The amount of the premium contributions paid are not more than 5% of the member’s monthly salary. These are deducted and withheld automatically by the employer from the employees’ salary or earnings.
#6: Republic Act No. 7875 created the National Health Insurance Program and established the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation.
